A family night out in Brooklyn’s Park Slope ended tragically with one twin dead and the other describing the attack.
During a break from family game night, a man reportedly enraged over an Instagram follow refusal attacked 19-year-old twins Sanyia and Samyia Spain at a deli around 2:20 a.m. Sunday, leading to a fatal confrontation.
According to Sanyia, the confrontation began inside the deli when the man approached Samyia. Despite her refusal to engage, the situation escalated quickly outside the store. “He pushed little Samyia, and then I pushed him,” Sanyia recounted. The altercation intensified when the man, now wielding a knife, threatened the sisters and their friends. In the ensuing chaos, Samyia was fatally stabbed in the chest and neck. “She said, ‘I’m about to faint,’” Sanyia remembered her sister’s last words before calling 911.
The attack has left the family and community in disbelief. Alphonso Goodson, the twins’ grandfather, expressed his shock and sorrow over the loss of his granddaughter. “She was beautiful, very respectful,” he said, mourning the senseless violence that took Samyia’s life.
Samyia, a dedicated Walgreens employee since high school, was known for her vibrant spirit. The Brooklyn-born sisters, who also lived in North Carolina, shared a close bond and love for their city.
