Massive Warehouse Fire in Michigan: Debris Scattered Up to a Mile Away

A massive fire erupted in a Clinton Township warehouse, north of Detroit, Michigan, containing vape products and gas canisters.

Emergency services controlled the fire that started around 8:50 PM on Monday evening by the early hours of Tuesday.

The Clinton Township Police and Fire Department responded quickly after receiving emergency calls. The explosions scattered debris up to a mile away. Authorities strongly warned the public to avoid the area and to seek safety.

Cause and Impact

The fire started in a building owned by Select Distributors, a distributor of vape products, nitrous oxide, and CBD oils.

The fire’s exact cause is unknown, but stored butane and nitrogen tanks in the warehouse may have ignited it.

The explosions were so intense that residents up to 15 miles away, such as in the city of Troy, could feel the vibrations. Some reported that objects in their homes vibrated and rattled.

Injuries and Damage

Two were injured in the fire: a firefighter by an exploding canister and a civilian with minor injuries, treated at a hospital.

The building is significantly damaged and deemed a total loss. Police and firefighters worked until the early morning hours to clear debris from the surrounding streets and stabilize the situation.

Warnings and Measures

Authorities urged the public to avoid the area around Groesbeck Highway and 15 Mile Road and to stay safe.

They warned of serious danger from airborne debris. Additionally, the exact composition of the smoke was unknown, which brought additional health risks.

The police and fire department collaborated with local forces and the ATF to manage the situation and investigate further.

Conclusion

The large fire in Clinton Township highlights the potential dangers posed by warehouses, especially when they contain flammable materials.

Emergency services’ quick action averted a larger disaster; investigations into the fire’s cause continue. The community unites to address the aftermath and learn from the incident.
