In a tragic incident, Jon Medwick, a 62-year-old cartoonist and WebMD employee, died after jumping from his 15th-floor Chelsea co-op in New York City.
Despite his girlfriend’s valiant efforts to save him, Medwick slipped away and fell to his death.
Medwick’s girlfriend, 45, woke to find him at the window and tried to prevent his jump. Unfortunately, she could not hold him back. The police received a 911 call around 5:45 a.m. and arrived at the scene at 300 West 23rd St., where Medwick had lived for over a decade and served on the co-op board.
Residents described Medwick as a sociable and kind person. His Instagram featured beautiful sunset photos from his apartment, indicating his appreciation for the city’s beauty. Medwick had been living with his girlfriend since before the pandemic and also had a brother who visited him.
The police have stated that they do not suspect foul play and believe Medwick was depressed before his death. This incident has left the community and his loved ones in shock and mourning.
