Emmy Russell, the granddaughter of legendary country singer Loretta Lynn, provided emotional moments during her “American Idol” audition.

Her self-penned piano ballad, “Skinny,” about eating disorders, impressed the judges, who included Luke Bryan, Katy Perry and Lionel Richie.

Russell, who performed on stage at a young age and traveled the world as a Christian missionary, returned to music at the age of 25 to find her own artistic voice and emancipate herself from her grandmother’s legacy.

The judges praised Russell’s songwriting skills and encouraged her to be more assertive.

Katy Perry emphasized that Russell does not need to compare herself to her grandmother because she has her own style.

Lionel Richie spoke of the promise he saw in her, and Luke Bryan encouraged her to own her voice and be more confident.

Russell, who grew up in a musical family and began performing on stage at the age of two, considers herself both Loretta Lynn’s granddaughter and an artist in her own right.

She wants to tell her own story and reach people through her music who can relate to her songs.

Her participation in “American Idol” is a step on this path to cement her own identity as a musician while honoring her family’s legacy.

With “Skinny,” Emmy Russell not only impressed the American Idol judges, but also brought an important issue to the forefront.

Her openness about her own struggles and her ability to express them in her music show that she is a strong and authentic voice in the music world. Her journey with “American Idol” and beyond will undoubtedly be followed with interest by many who are eager to see how she carries on her musical legacy while forging her own path.
