US President Biden met with Navalny’s family, but mistakenly referred to Yulia as “Yolanda,” a recurring mistake at solidarity meetings.
U.S. President Joe Biden recently met with the wife and daughter of late Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny, but mistakenly referred to Navalny’s wife, Yulia, as “Yolanda.”
This is not the first time that Biden has publicly confused names, and it occurred during a meeting intended as a show of solidarity with those fighting for democracy and human rights in Russia.
US President Joe Biden recently met in California with Yulia Navalny and her daughter Dasha, the wife and daughter of the late Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny.
Today, I met with Yulia and Dasha Navalnaya – Aleksey Navalny's loved ones – to express my condolences for their devastating loss.

This meeting took place less than a week after Navalny’s death in a Russian prison and was presented as an expression of Biden’s condolences and support for the family of the deceased, as well as a sign of solidarity with those fighting for democracy and human rights in Russia.
Alexei Navalny, a prominent critic of Russian President Vladimir Putin and a leading activist against corruption in Russia, died under mysterious circumstances in a Russian penal colony.
His death drew international attention, particularly because of allegations that the Kremlin was responsible for his fate.
Yulia Navalny, Navalny’s widow, has publicly accused the Russian authorities of killing her husband and has pointed out that the Russian authorities have denied access to Navalny’s body and have delayed the official investigation into his death.
