Alabama judge seriously injured after gunfight with violent son
A tragic shooting in Montgomery, Alabama, left Judge Johnny Hardwick critically injured after his son, Khalfani Hardwick, shot him during a heated argument.
The incident occurred shortly after 1 p.m. in the judge’s home. Khalfani Hardwick, who was already known for a murder a decade ago but was not serving a prison sentence, fled in a truck after the crime but was arrested 45 minutes later near the abandoned vehicle.
The exact circumstances leading up to the altercation are still unclear.
Judge Hardwick had to undergo at least one operation and is being treated for serious injuries.
Khalfani Hardwick has a history of violence, including the fatal shooting of a man in 2014, for which he received a reduced charge at the time and no jail time.
Judge Hardwick has served in Montgomery County’s 15th Judicial Circuit since 2001 and was appointed president of the Alabama Association of Circuit Court Judges last August.
